Study of Particulate Matter over Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Cities: A Case Study over Two Years

The aim of this study is to determine the concentration of Particulate Matter (PM) over Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. PM of 33 and 21 different locations of Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar respectively were collected and analysed seasonally for the year 2017 & 2018. In Ahmedabad, Overall average of PM

were 201.12, 65.38, and 35.97 in 2017 and 267.67, 80.59, and 36.95 in 2018. In Gandhinagar, these concentrations were 127.31, 51.69, and 32.17 in 2017 and 186.08, 63.16, and 30.91 in 2018. The NAAQS of PM
2.5
& PM
10
are set to be 60μg/m
³
and 100μg/m
³
. Compared to these standards, the annual averages of PM
10
were higher in winter, summer and post monsoon & PM
2.5
were higher in winter and post monsoon but lower in summer in both the cities. Due to higher temperature, wind speed and humidity PM concentrations were found to be lower in summer compared to winter & post monsoon.
