Study of Ground Faults Methods for Branched Overhead Power Lines

Overhead power transmission lines (OTL) are the most extended and least reliable elements of the electric power system. Increasing the accuracy of fault location (FL) methods on power lines is an urgent task. FL methods for lines with branches have been developed. Method 1 includes location of a single-phase short circuit using the method of two-sided synchronized measurement. Method 2 includes location of the damaged line section in case of a single-phase earth fault in networks with low earth fault currents. Both methods involve the use of signals from digital instrument transformers. The article is devoted to the study of the described above FL methods for branched OTL. The results of estimating the accuracy of methods on a network model in Matlab+Simulink, under the influence of distorting the measurement factors, are presented.
