All Optical Biosensors for Glucose and Urea Detection Based on Photonic Crystal Nano-Technology

Photonic sensing nano-technology is widely used for diagnosing of diseases in clinical settings. In this paper, we design and simulate an all optical biosensors based on two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals intended for biomedical applications. The sensing operation is performed by refractive index detection, where each wavelength represents a specific concentration.The first sensor application is to detect the level of glucose concentration for any fluidized analyte. While the second, is used for measurement of urea level in urine. The simulation is performed using FDTD and PWE method. The proposed biosensors are very compact with competitive characteristics in terms of quality factor, sensitivity and transmission rate.
