Nonlinear Embedding Model for Waveform Engineering Motivated PA Design

This paper demonstrates the application of the nonlinear embedding model in matching network design for a class F power amplifier. The nonlinear embedding model provides access to the intrinsic current generator and enables waveform shaping by directly loading the model intrinsically with ideal open or short terminations. The load impedance at the external or package reference plane can be calculated by the nonlinear embedding model, resulting in the optimal impedance needed for matching network design. Unlike computationally expensive load pull analysis, the nonlinear embedding model only requires a single simulation to determine the optimal load impedances at fundamental and harmonic frequencies. The design approach using nonlinear embedding model is demonstrated through a class F PA design example and validated against traditional load pull simulated results. It is shown that the nonlinear embedding model approach can be an efficient alternative to the commonly used load pull method.
