Design and Development Of Graphical User Interface To Monitor and Control a Bioreactor: Design and Development of GUI for Bioreactor

This study describes the importance of a biochemical/bioprocess engineering studies bioreactor design, which is a relatively challenging engineering problem. Only under ideal conditions can microorganisms or cells fulfil their intended activity with minimal impurity formation. For aerobic fermentation, the surrounding parameters associated with the bioreactor, such as temperature, traces of chemical constituents, dissolved oxygen and pH have an impact on the organisms' growth and productivity. A cooling mechanism is contained to maintain appropriate temperature conditions during fermentation. The rising bubbles aid in the mixing of the fermentation medium and the removal of waste gases such as carbon dioxide. Bioreactors are frequently kept in a pressured condition, which improves oxygen solubility in the water. As a result, continual monitoring of these important parameters aids in maintaining the proper composition levels in the reactor to produce the intended output. In this work, LABVIEW software is used to simulate a Bioreactor environment by developing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) which would help in analyzing and preventing unusual parametric changes in the bioreactor by creating appropriate alarming systems and control action.
