Comprehensive Analysis of the Toxic Emissions from Commercial Solid Fuels Combustion

Solid fuels used for commercial applications are the important sources of various pollutant emissions. These fuels are basically carbon or compounds of carbon. When these fuels are burnt, they cause environmental pollution and also leaves residue in the form of ash. In this article, the emission from a set of five commercial solid fuels such as coal, charcoal, firewood, cow dung cake, wood pellets and agricultural extracts such as corn straws, wheat straws and cotton shell are analyzed through experimentation. The key pollutants such as Sulphur dioxide (SO
2
), Carbon dioxide (CO
2
), Oxides of Nitrogen, Carbon Monoxide and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) are assessed. In the incipient stage the emissions were low (i.e., the stage immediately after ignition), whereas in the stage of growth it starts emitting pollution. But in the developed state, the emission was comparatively higher than all the other stages. In decaying stage it stops burning. The average emission rate of SO

, CO, CO

, PM

and NO

from these fuels are 23.22, 45.45, 14.38, 40.66 and 14.30 g/kg respectively. The obtained results helps to increase the understanding of emission from commercial solid fuels and burning agricultural extracts in rural areas. It also provides the information for upcoming projects in future and environmental evaluation in the industrial and rural areas.
