Polarimetric UAV-deployed FMCW Radar for Buried People Detection in Rescue Scenarios

When searching for people who are buried alive, emergency services have an urgent need for an efficient, technical locating capability. Current technologies are inadequate to fulfil the requirements of a live rescue. In this paper, key aspects of a sensor system enabling the location of buried persons are presented. The approach uses networked MIMO radar modules with algorithms for human localisation based on respiration detection.
