A Security-Constrained Economic Dispatch Model Incorporating IPFC Control Characteristics

As the representative device of the third-generation flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS), interline power flow controller (IPFC) provides a potentially attractive solution to controlling power flow in the modern electric network, and has received extensive attention in recent years. In order to further explore the control potential of IPFC and ensure the economic and secure operation of power system, a security-constrained economic dispatch (SCED) model incorporating IPFC control characteristics and its solution methodology are proposed. Firstly, the impact of IPFC control characteristics on the static security is verified. Secondly, the optimization model incorporating IPFC control characteristics and its solution algorithm are proposed. Finally, the case study indicates that the impact of IPFC control characteristics on power flow distribution after the N−1 contingency is non-negligible, and the proposed method can significantly improve the economy and static security of power system by fully exploiting the control potential of IPFC.
