Optimization Model of Transmission Expansion Planning Considering Reliability with the Correlation Scenarios of Wind and Demand

Transmission expansion planning is an important part of energy transmission to meet the increasing load demand and promote the integration of renewable energy. However, traditional transmission expansion planning usually considers the total cost without considering the reliability, resulting in the scheme may not be reasonable. Therefore, the transmission expansion planning model considering reliability and the correlation scenarios of wind and demand is proposed in this paper, which will help planners make informed and more rational decisions. Firstly, an iterative algorithm is proposed to generate a pool of candidate expansion schemes instead of providing a single planning scheme, which depends on the investment cost and system operation cost of new lines with different topologies. Then, the reliability of all candidate schemes is calculated, which have almost the total cost. In addition, the scenario reduction method is proposed to improve the computational efficiency and take into account the correlation between wind and load demand. Finally, the numerical results with the IEEE RTS-79 system show the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper.
