Avenues for Authentic Learning in Engineering Education through Reflection and Co-Creation

Engineering education has long focused on subject knowledge acquisition as a key learning objective. Today’s rapidly changing world, however, requires engineers to be equipped with the skillset that would enable them to adopt to the industry’s uncertain nature. Yet, pedagogical research on avenues to infuse authentic entrepreneurial education into engineering curriculum remains limited. A pedagogy of introducing authentic entrepreneurship education is thus introduced through reflective and value co-creation practices. The proposed pedagogy is motived by the fact that active learning and agency is better enriched through enhanced sense of belonging where students are enabled to take part of a learning experience that is of relevance and added value to their individual aspirations and prospective. In efforts to urge engineering educators to consider underutilised avenues to encourage active engagement in learning, not for learning mainly, the pedagogy aims to bridge an existing gap in authentic learning literature for engineering education.
