IoT- based Wireless Real-time Temperature and Humidity Surveillance System for Hill Stations

Building a cloud-based surveillance system is critical for lowering server maintenance costs, preventing data loss, and facilitating access from multiple devices connected to the Internet at the same time from anywhere across the globe. Hill stations are vital economic hubs for any country as they are not only important tourist destinations but also contribute to the economy by producing essential cash crops such as tea and coffee. This economic importance of hill stations necessitates constant tracking of temperature and humidity as they are critical climatic parameters that can be used to predict rainfall, landslides, and crop yield. The aim of this paper is to make use of the emerging IoT technology to help automate the tracking of humidity and temperature in hill stations. This monitoring will not only provide us with valuable data for analyzing which will help us make critical decisions to increase economic outcomes and reduce economic losses through events such as landslides. In this work, we use a simple IoT architecture to monitor temperature and humidity through a sensor and a microcontroller module. Following which we upload the information over a Wi-Fi network to a cloud-based server. This data can then be used by authorities responsible to take necessary actions depending on the information gathered.
