The Effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on High School Education

The Corona virus pandemic has fundamentally attacked our society and once the epidemic subsides, nothing will be the same as before. One of the subsystems of our society where change has occurred most rapidly is education. For it, the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic could mark the beginning of a new era. One of society’s most slowly changing subsystems, one of the main tools for long-term preservation of stability and values, has adapted to the new circumstances with hitherto unimaginable speed. Schools and universities have moved overnight to use online teaching means. This has generated a number of new problems and shed new light on a number of old ones. This paper aims to outline and briefly analyze these current issues in education. It is composed mainly of three parts. The first one presents the results of a survey made just days before the quarantine was introduced. The second part presents some of the experiences we have gained in more than a year of online and blended learning, as well as some of the challenges education has to face in the near future. Finally, I will outline some conclusions that can be drawn for the future based on what has been presented above.
