In Silico Blood Flow Simulation using Finite Volume Modeling in a Generic 3D Aneurysm Model

Abdominal aneurysms are abnormal localized dilations of an artery that can be lethal. The primary objective is to use the finite volume approach to study biomechanical parameters for 3D generic aneurysms. This work uses computational fluid dynamics to analyze the blood flow behaviour in a diseased abdominal aortic aneurysm with modeled generic geometry. An observation made from the study showed a higher value of wall shear stress where the blood flow ejected. In steady inlet flow conditions, vortex development in the distal wall aneurysm sac reveals that the shape of the wall and its stiffness have a significant effect. Considering the abdominal aortic aneurysm’s biomechanics may result in an improved, case-specific estimate of the abdominal aortic aneurysm’s rupture potential, which might considerably enhance the patient clinical treatment. These findings provide emphasises on the biomechanical aspects of aneurysm analysis before Endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.
