Study on the load altering capability of recurve parapets using model scale experiments

The load-altering potential of recurved parapets was investigated using a 1:8 model scale laboratory experiment on breaking wave impact on a vertical wall with various recurved parapets. The hypothesis is supported by using impact pressure and forces as representative indicators for varying incoming monochromatic waves. After reaching the inversion point, the recurved parapets reduce loads on the overall structure. Furthermore, the load reduction capability increases as the exit angle/protruding length of recurved parapets increases.
