Enhanced Light Absorptivity by Designing 2D Photonic Crystals on Lead Iodide based Perovskite Solar Cell

Perovskite solar cells (PSC) is one of the third generation solar cell that manage to compete with silicon solar cells in only a few years of development. Not only the efficiency trend, but also PSC have a low-cost manufacturing. In order to enhance the efficiency, the optical improvement is become important. Photonic crystals (PC) are one of the optical solutions to enhance the absorptivity of solar cells. The characteristics of PC such as "slow photon"and straightening of light effect is useful to reduce the recombination and strengthen the interaction between photon and material. In this work, a two dimension of nanodisk photonic crystal is applied to electron transport layer in methylamine lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3, or MAPbI3) based PSC. The design is made in simulation with FDTD methods.It is found that the absorptivity of PSC with ideal design of PC is increased about 9% than flat PSC.
