A Fast Non-Iterative Design Approach of One-Turn Inductor with Significant AC Flux using Commercially Available Components

The resonant inductor in a high-frequency converter features small inductance with a high current ripple. A design methodology is introduced to select a minimum core volume and an optimum litz wire size for a one-turn inductor with significant AC flux. The inductor is designed to meet a specific loss or size constraint. A non-iterative procedure is described in which skin effect, proximity effect, and fringing effect are considered. This method is demonstrated for a resonant inductor in a 2-MHz Series-Resonator Buck (SRB) converter.
