Intellectual Property Management of Industrial Software Products: The Case of Triol Corp

In the presented article, based on the results of studying the experience of an industrial company and interviews with responsible persons, the management of intellectual property for mass-produced and customized software products is discussed. The specificity of creation, protection, and utilization of such intellectual property is analyzed using real examples from B2B and B2C business practices. The study of software products in the presented context is subject to the correspondence of solutions to the ability to solve a wide range of technical problems and problems of connectivity with the management of technological processes, mechanisms, storage, processing, transmission of data, etc. While patents are a marker of the knowledge intensity of technologies, taking into account the rapid updating of technologies, copyrights, trademark rights and technology brands provide the company with product protection and its recognition for a long time, unlike patents, which lose their significance over time. While ICTs have penetrated most technologies, understanding and applying intellectual property management tactics and strategies for mass-scale applications and customized software products is of vital importance for both developers and other intellectual property rights holders from related industries.
