Estimation of Electric Stress in a Vacuum Interrupter Using Multiple Linear Regression

This article deals with the estimation of electric stress distribution over a vacuum interrupter having axi-symmetric configuration that is used for 11-kV switching operation. Regression analysis is used to establish a functional relationship between the maximum value of the resultant electric stress (
$\text{E}^{\text {max}}$
) over the live electrode of the system and those geometrical parameters that affect the stress. Statistical tools like testing of hypothesis and maximum likelihood estimator are used to estimate the goodness of fit of the regression equation; 173 datasets are used to establish the regression equation, and finally, five sets of data are used for measuring the accuracy of the predicted model.
