Method to prevent and track Locust's Intrusion using Object Detection Algorithms

Locust's attacks have been reported across various parts of India and Pakistan destroying various crop fields. Locusts are found not to be dangerous until they are individuals or in isolated small groups. This phase of locusts is known as solitary phase. When their population grows in number, it results in the transformation of solitary phase to gregarious phase where behavioral changes happens to locusts so that they form swarms and attack crop fields. Researchers have found that the ears of locusts have a highly integrated and miniaturized hearing system that distinguishes low-frequency sound from high-frequency sound. Using this characteristic, locust's swarms were made to disintegrate into solitary phases using high frequency acoustic devices in some parts of India. Our idea is to detect locust's swarms from the CCTV (closed-circuit television) in the crop fields using object detection algorithms. The CCTV is connected to a high frequency acoustic device using Arduino. If the swarms are detected in real-time, the high-frequency sound is generated which disintegrates the locust's swarms into solitary phases and the latitude and longitude of the location of locust attack is sent to a database which enables tracking.
