Continental mapping of fire risk across Australia using the NOAA-AVHRR

The lack of spatial information about the number, location, frequency and spatial extent of wildfires in the tropical savannas region of northern Australia has lead to the progressive development of an operational system for the routine mapping and monitoring of fire using the NOAA series of polar orbiting satellites.
