A STEM intervention on Students’ Attitudes Towards Science

For decades, attitudes towards science have attracted the interest of researchers in the field of science education. The primary reason is that they affect students’ future aspirations and science career choices, particularly during their early school years. However, despite the growing importance of scientific literacy, the diminishing number of students wanting to study science has aroused concern in many countries worldwide. The need to introduce engaging science programs early in the curriculum seems imperative. This study presents the impact of a STEM intervention on K-6 students’ attitudes, self-efficacy and achievement. The findings are encouraging and reveal differences in students’ ideas of scientists, self-esteem, stereotyped beliefs, and perceptions on the importance of science to their lives and the environment after the intervention.
