Design of Field to Fork Framework: Integrating IoT into Traditional Farming

The increasing population and resource (land, water) scarcity has put increasing pressure on traditional agricultural practice. Also, the integrity of the products labelled organic in market are questionable. Adapting modern technologies in traditional farming practice is expected to be a viable solution. Relevant works reported are addressing problems in agriculture at different juncture. Thus, understanding the need for a collective framework, through this communication a five-tier architecture is proposed; Business Layer is included newly to existing works to demonstrate the need and benefits of the same. The implementation of Machine Learning (ML) Algorithm to predict the field needs and the design of a secured Quick Response (QR) code system to verify the integrity of the end-agri-product are mainly focused through this communication. The proposed model could be used as a reference, "Field to Fork" model to implement Industry 4.0 farming.
