Design of Hybrid Micro-grid under Islanding and Grid Connected Modes

All throughout the world, traditional power systems are facing increasing depletion of fossil fuel supplies, low energy efficiency, and pollution. These concerns have sparked a new trend of integrating renewable/non-conventional energy sources into utility distribution networks to generate power locally at distribution voltage. Natural gas, biogas, wind power, solar photovoltaic cells, combined heat and power systems, microturbines, and Stirling engines are examples of renewable energy sources. At distribution voltage levels, it translates a wide range of renewable and non-conventional energy sources and loads. A Micro-Grid system is a novel technology that improves grid reliability while also providing alternate energy sources. The initial model of a small scale microgrid system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to implement the project. The distributed generators (DG) in a micro-grid have enough capacity to handle all, or almost all, of the load linked to the micro-grid. The system is intended to operate in both islanded and grid-connected setups. The goal of this work is to provide the basis for subsequent research and the construction of a more comprehensive micro-grid model, providing for a complete knowledge of how MGs function. Micro-generations based on renewable sources, such as wind and solar, have the greatest promise for producing emission-free electricity in future power systems. The principal renewable power generating units in the proposed micro-grid system are a solar generation unit and a wind farm. A prototype model with a solar panel, wind generator, and battery as storage device with light load is intended for hardware implementation to examine how the load is shared by the different micro sources.
