A Wearable Trapezoidal Antenna with Triple Stop-Band Performance for off-body WBAN Applications

In this paper, a compact triple-band-notched UWB trapezoidal antenna is proposed for off-body wireless body area network (WBAN). To eliminate undesirable signals of conventional narrow-band communication, a three triangular complementary split-ring resonator (TCSRR) are used by etching the radiating element to attain large UWB bandwidth coverage from 3.1 to 15.2 GHz with triple notched bands. These notch bands are WiMAX (3.63–3.95 GHz), WLAN (4.62–5.29 GHz), and X-band and ITU satellite communication systems (8.9–9.81 GHz). The proposed antenna occupies a very compact area of 20mm×20mm (0.33λg×0.33λg) mounted on a flexible Rogers RO3003 substrate. The effects of human tissue loading on the performance of the trapezoidal antenna under different bending scenarios, including the specific absorption rate (SAR), are investigated. The acquired performance exhibit that the UWB antenna is more secure and suitable for off-body applications.
