Performance Comparison for Stable Compact Modelling of Piezoelectric Microactuator

Mathematical methods of model order reduction generate efficient and accurate system-level models from high-dimensional device-level models. Applying this methodology to multiphysical finite element models, as arising from piezoelectric setups, does not necessarily preserve the original system’s stability. To solve this problem, several methods have been developed over the past few years. However, these methods were only demonstrated on few numerical case studies and their performance has not been investigated systematically. This work fills the gap and evaluates their respective performances, quantifying the impact of various parameters on each method’s accuracy and computational demand. Furthermore, a piezoelectric chip actuator is introduced as a novel test case, complementing the piezoelectric energy harvesters studied in previous work.
