Liquid Crystal-Au Grating Assisted Surface Plasmon Resonance Based Temperature Sensor

In this paper, we present surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based temperature sensor using E7 liquid crystal. The proposed sensor structure consists of gold (Au) grating on Au substrate with liquid crystal cladding. The structure has been numerically simulated by using rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA). We show considerable shifting of SPR resonance with temperature variation above room temperature. This study shows the possibility of designing a temperature sensor using liquid crystal and Au grating.
