Energy expenditure in lower limb amputees with prosthesis

A prosthesis is a mechanical device invented by specialists following the purpose of rehabilitee an amputed person. So that, not only helps in daily tasks but also help reduce the energy required in any task. Due to the high percentage of amputees around the world, it is important to develop prostheses that fit in their needs. Energy cost in a lower limb amputee can be quantified by indirect calorimetry by measuring oxygen consumption during walking or climbing stairs. This work is a review of the background of the type of prostheses developed to date and their relation with energy cost in lower limb amputees.
