Optimal Design of 550 kV GIL Basin-type Insulator

The structural shape of basin-insulator affect the distribution of electric field. First, the parametric model of the basin-type insulator in gas-insulated metal enclosed transmission line (GIL) was established using the non-uniform rational B-spline curve (NURBS), and the electric field and stress field were calculated using the finite element method. Then, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was applied to optimize the original structure of the basin-type insulator, the high-voltage shield and the central insert. The focus of this paper on the optimization of basin-type insulator was to optimize the electrical performance of the whole structure while meeting the requirements of mechanical strength. The optimization process reduced the maximum electric field strength of the gas region by 4.84%, and the maximum tangential electric field strength of basin-type insulator convex surface declined by 5.17%. Meanwhile, when the simulation pressure was applied on the concave and convex surfaces of the basin-type insulator, the maximum stress of the basin-type insulator was less than the threshold, the maximum stress of the adhesive surface between the insulator and insert declined by 16.8 % and 7.28 %, respectively.
