A Study on the Accelerated Life Models for Lifetime Prediction of the GIS based on Insulation Spacer

The application and experience of Gas-Insulated Switchgear(GIS) has increased rapidly over the past few decades. The long-term performance of the insulating system of GIS is therefore of increasing interest for both manufacturers and users. The question is whether there are any ageing processes that cause a restriction of the substation lifetime. Generally, ageing processes cannot be avoided and any material is subject to ageing. However, for the present it is of interest to only consider critical ageing caused by defects which result in an increase of the statistical failure rate.Recently, It is important to consider such critical ageing processes. The critical failure mechanisms have to be clarified in order to guarantee the correct material properties by sufficient production quality, and to determine adequate test methods and maintenance management procedures. All parts of the insulation system have to be considered. In addition to spacer as the main insulation, there are many different components made of epoxy resin and other materials. The long-term performance of the gas, the bulk of solid insulating components and their surfaces is of significant importance. It has to be considered as a result of the relevant physical phenomena whether critical ageing can happen at all or whether it can be excluded by normal routine tests or diagnostics. Otherwise it is necessary to investigate the statistical long-term performance and to secure it by special quality control.In this paper, the accelerated life models for lifetime prediction of in the GIS based on the insulation spacer are suggested by using the Weibull distribution. It is demonstrated by using the Matlab and Minitab program.
