Ethics and Eco-Design for Complex Uses of Energy: What We Need for a Sustainable Future

A new scope of electrical engineering relates to ethical design and management for environmental sensitivity. This means practitioners must increasingly promote development, growth, and progress toward innovations in electrical technologies. The ecological design of power systems has to balance the active intelligence of system components with the passive intelligence of system structures. It has to combine energy saving and the rational use of power, with service continuity, quality, safety, and awareness of other, nonelectrical needs. The innovations of the Internet of Things (IoT) and digitization produce a complex spatial–temporal reality consisting of structured microsystems and virtual dynamic systems. Their complex interactions operate in a simple way, with local management based on flock logic. It is urgent that society be aware of its electrical rights and claims them before they are completely compromised. Those rights lie in system and equipment ownership, sustainable innovation, equipment life cycles, good operability, a microapproach to design, the defense of electrical structuration, energy communities, a Society of Things, social processes, and reparability and unification.
