THERMI Award

Each year, SEMI-THERM honors a person as a Significant Contributor to the field of semiconductor thermal management. The THERMI award is intended to recognize a recipient’s history of contributions to crucial thermal issues affecting the performance of semiconductor devices and systems. The voting body of past THERMI winners and the current year General Chair are pleased to present the 2021 THERMI Award to: Dr. Sreekant Narumanchi of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The award is for Advanced Power Electronics and Electric Machines for Electric-Drive Mobility Applications. Electronics, power electronics, and electric machines are becoming important for an array of mobility/ transportation, renewable energy and energy efficiency applications. In this presentation, I will provide an introduction to NREL and my Group. Then, I will describe some challenges and opportunities for power electronics, electric machines and electric drives for mobility applications in particular. After that, I will give a brief overview of my Group’s research activities in these areas.
