Stability of Long-Distance Interconnection with FACTS Controlled Devices Paper Title

This study is devoted to impact-controlled devices of reactive shunt and series compensation on steady state stability indices and different operating conditions of long-distance power transmission lines. The best combination of FACTS device control system settings for most of operations of long-distance AC transmission line "Imperatriz-Serra da Mesa" connecting north and south power systems has been identified. Simultaneous coordination of AVR+PSS power plant generators, TCSC and SVC/STATCOM parameters has been carried out. When optimizing series compensation device, an additional feedback of control system is proposed by mutual angle between rotors of equivalent generators or by plant bus phasors (PMU data). Thus, it is proved that long-distance AC power lines of high and ultrahigh voltage with FACTS controlled devices are capable of operating in a wide range of conditions (at least, from zero to surge impedance loading) while maintaining a significant reserve for small signal stability.
