The Multiphysics Approach to the Analysis of a Turbo Generator Operating Condition

This paper describes the method of a coupled electromagnetic and mechanical finite elements analysis, shows step by step multiphysics calculation for a non-silent pole synchronous machine. A parametrized 3-D geometric model of the existing turbo generator is developed. All design operations are made in the built-in graphic editor of used software. Nominal state parameters (the rated rotor field current, the stator current, the power factor) are studied. The transient electromagnetic analysis is simulated, taking into account a rotating winding rotor. Obtained electromagnetic forces and the created geometric model are transferred to the mechanical module as initial conditions. The transient mechanical analysis is simulated. In consequence, forced oscillations driven by external electromagnetic forces are found. Finite element calculation results are compared with real readings.
