Text Encryption Based on a Novel One Dimensional Piecewise Chaotic Map

This work studies the problem of chaos-based text encryption. A novel 1-D chaotic map is proposed and studied that exhibits regions of constant chaos, and high values of Lyapunov exponent. Based on the new chaotic map, a pseudorandom bit generator is designed that passes all the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) statistical tests. This PRBG is applied to the text related encryption problem by using character permutation and the exclusive OR operation. To showcase the robustness of this text encryption technique, different tests are being used with respect to attacks, like entropy, correlation, key space, and histogram analysis.
