Investigation of Electromagnetic Waves Propagation in the Millimeter Range in a Planar Slow Wave Structure of the "Meander" Type on a CVD Diamond Substrate

A promising planar SWS of the "meander" type on a suspended diamond substrate for a W-range high-power TWT is proposed. The nature of the dispersion characteristics transformation and the dependencies of the interaction impedance of the working spatial harmonics on the frequency with the change in the conductors thickness have been studied by numerical methods. As a result of the study it was found that the beginning of the decay (brake) of the interaction impedance curve can be controlled by the ratio of the conductor thickness to the substrate thickness. The attenuation of electromagnetic waves in the SWS is calculated taking into account the influence of the finite conductivity and roughness of semiconductors which is significant in W-range. As a result of the performed cycle of calculations the optimal geometry of a planar SWS of the "meander" type on a suspended substrate was found which possesses the required electrodynamic characteristics (EDC) and takes into account the available manufacturing technology.
