Long-term Analysis of Children’s Physical Activity for Nursery School Teacher Self-evaluation

Lack of physical activity (PA) in childhood has become a worldwide concern. In this study, we analyzed the long-term PA of three-year-old children in nursery school. After measuring and visualizing their PA over nine months, we discussed the results in semi-structured interviews with four nursery school teachers under busy working conditions. We found that the combination of the quantitative visualization and the qualitative interviews was effective for helping nursery teachers reflect on and improve the quality of their childcare. We show that long-term PA data recorded in an unrestricted environment is useful for teachers to improve their long- and short-term childcare programs.
