RaMonic: Obstacle warning device for Visually Impaired People

Although, the visually impaired people are traveling by using the white cane, they still have some difficulties with not seeing the surrounding environment. In fact, the accident of the visually impaired people is often caused by static obstacles between head and waist, such as, traffic signs, branches, large trees, staircase, overpass, protruding objects, and other obstacles. Consequently, to avoid such accidents, a RaMonic warning device is proposed. It was developed with the specific needs of the visually impaired people for enhancing the travel experience of the users in the new environments. The RaMonic was a simple, compact, lightweight, and easy to use device using a low-cost battery with multi-position installation, such as on the glasses, hats, collar, or jacket. As a result, using a white cane with a RaMonic warning device can improve the life quality and performance of the visually impaired people.
