The Simulation of Backscattering Mueller Matrix for the Wind-Generated Bubbles in the Ocean by Using a GPU-Accelerated Monte Carlo Model

A graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerated Monte Carlo model is developed for polarized light propagation in the seawater containing bubbles. The speedup of the parallel algorithm is approximately 35x. The two-dimensional (2D) patterns of the backscattering Mueller matrix for wind-generated bubbles is simulated by using this parallel model. The simulation results show that only seven matrix elements are independent, and the 2D distributions of the backscattering Mueller matrix elements of bubbles are relevant to the wind speeds.
