Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Assisted Wireless Communication: Path loss Modeling with Multipath Fading

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is a key enabling technology for 6G. The free-space path loss model of RIS has been proposed in existing research, but the influence of multipath is not taken into account. In this paper, by establishing a RIS-assisted wireless communication model that considers multipath factors, the path loss of the RIS-assisted SISO system affected by multipath fading is modeled and the path loss simulation results are fitted with the CI model. This work adds the impact of multipath on RIS path loss model for the first time and lays the foundation for the practical application of RIS.
