Simulation of Spatiotemporal Variation of Evaporation Duct Height based on WRF Model with Experimental Validation

Base on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, an attempt to estimate the evaporation duct height was made in this paper. A suite of simulations was conducted along five routes in different regions of the South China Sea at different times. To verify the validation, we compared the simulated results with those measured by sensors on research vessels. The fitness between the simulated and measured values differs from one another due to the potential errors in the numerical and measured experiments. However, the simulated values consist well with the measured values in terms of the variation tendency under most of the cases, thus indicating that the WRF model can be used to estimate the occurrence of the evaporation duct and the simulated results are good references for a more accurate estimate using other methods.
