Terrain Modeling of Virtual Asteroids based on Poisson Faulting and its Electromagnetic Scattering

For the research of electromagnetic (EM) scattering from asteroids and the subsequent measurement in the anechoic chamber, the surface models of virtual asteroids are constructed based on Poisson faulting. The circular near-field-to-far-field transformation (CNFFFT) is applied to predict the far-field radar cross-sections (RCS) for spherical and ellipsoid asteroid models, where the near-field echo from the virtual asteroid is simulated by the Multilevel fast multipole method(MLFMM). The simulation results show that the proposed model can be used to reproduce the near-field measurement data of virtual asteroids in the anechoic chamber.
