Design and Analysis of a Compact Textile MIMO Antenna for ISM Band Wearable Applications

A compact textile Multi-input Multi-output (MIMO) antenna design for Industrial scientific and medical bands at 5.8 GHz is proposed. The design structure consists of two similar antenna elements with a shared partial ground structure, like a mirror image. The overall dimensions of the design are 40×30.5×1 mm
³
and jeans material is used as textile substrate. The structure provides a resonating band at 5.8 GHz with a bandwidth of 1.69 GHz. A 25 dB of isolation between 2-ports is achieved, which is much required. A peak gain of 4.02, 4.08 dBi is obtained at port-1 and port-2 respectively. The MIMO diversity performance is examined in terms of ECC (envelope correlation coefficient), DG (diversity gain) with 0.001 and 9.98 respectively. The human body safety level is assessed by using a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) simulation on a three-layer human body tissue model. The low SAR values of 1.32, 0.96 W/Kg for 1g, and 10g of tissue are obtained, which makes the choice for potential wearable applications.
