A Modified Droop Control for AC Microgrids to Improve Dynamic Performance with Linear and Unbalanced Loads

This paper proposed a modified droop control technique to enhance the dynamic performance of an ac microgrid (MG). The suggested control also incorporates a virtual reactance-based technique that utilizes a low pass filter to improve distributed generation (DG) power decoupling. For two DGs MG systems, the suggested modified control performance is compared to conventional droop control techniques. The Matlab Simulink results shown that the proposed control strategy is effective under both symmetrical and asymmetrical loading scenarios. The proposed control technique outperformed the traditional control scheme by reducing power fluctuation, circulating current, load voltage deviations, and current dynamic behavior. The conventional droop control strategy results in a high circulating current and distorted waveform. On the other hand, the proposed control approach avoids these impacts while increasing power-sharing and disengagement between real and reactive power. Modified droop control guarantees that power fluctuations shared by the DG are dampened and that the MG transient response is improved.
