Effect of DSTS and AHVDC on AGC Performance of a Multi-Area System using Two Degree of Freedom Fractional Order Controller

This paper presents the integration of DSTS into a three-area automatic generation control system. Area-1, 2, and 3 are equipped with thermal and DSTS units. For the first time, a novel secondary controller named as 2DOF-TID is proposed for the three-area DSTS- thermal system, and their parameters are tuned simultaneously using a BSA. The dynamic response of the system with 2DOF-TID controller are compared to that of TID and PID controllers and found to be superior. Moreover, the system dynamics are analysed considering DSTS under fixed and random insolation conditions, and the study revealed that the system exhibits superior dynamics when using DSTS under fixed insolation. Further, the responses with parallel AC-HVDC system shows improvement in system dynamics. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis infers that the controller settings of 2DOF-TID acquired at nominal conditions are stable.
