The Treatment and Development Prospect of VR Exposure Therapy for Mental Diseases

People with mental illness seem to be easily labeled as “abnormal” by the society, and they will even feel inferior. Sick people are prone to have a sense of shame, that they are “humiliating”, dare not go to medical treatment, afraid of being considered “abnormal people” by acquaintances. Patients with psychological diseases have even much more shame than those with cancer, which is very bad for the timely treatment of psychological diseases. Virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) is a good means and method for patients with mental illness, especially those with a stigma. This paper summarizes the application field of VRET and related data support, and reviews the mechanism of VRET in the process. Future research can focus on designing more natural human-computer interaction technologies, realizing the deep integration of technology and social anxiety treatment, and focusing on the role and mechanism of third-person perspective application.
