Acoustic Fault Trace as a Diagnostic Parameter of Modern Vehicles

The paper deals with the tendencies in the development of automobile market, changes in the structure and forms of car ownership, changes in the characteristics of drivers. The tasks in the field of automobile transport operation and trends in the production of modern automobiles are studied. The trend toward connected cars and a high degree of automation, both in terms of vehicle management and diagnostics, is assessed. The collected statistics of sub-dealer service for the last 3 years (Volvo cars) allowed us to give a reasonable assessment of the many symptoms of malfunctions, which are recorded by the car owner during the formation of an order for repair. The physical concept of “sound” was considered. The made conclusions allow to assert the necessity of introduction of a new parameter for diagnostics of a modern car. The relevance of the introduction of acoustic trace of malfunction as a diagnostic parameter of modern car in the context of existing trends is considered. The justification of using this parameter not only for passenger cars, but also for commercial and passenger vehicles, especially for urban (urban passenger transport, UPT) is presented.
