Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology to Determine the Need for Repair Work of Road Elements

Ensuring road safety and reducing mortality in road accidents is a priority for the development of the Russian Federation, which reflected both in presidential decrees and in the transport strategy of the Russian Federation until 2030 with a forecast for the period up to 2035. The use of artificial intelligence technologies in assessing the operational state of road safety systems and road equipment elements will allow timely operational control by visual and instrumental assessment methods and make decisions on repair or replacement. Prompt repair and restoration works will ensure compliance of working and design parameters of road arrangement elements during operation. Recording of the data obtained from the results of operational monitoring into the developed IS “ModAS” to support the decision to select a new design of the road safety system will make it possible to evaluate the normative state at all stages and stages of the life cycle of each safety system design and predict operational costs. In particular, assess the need to carry out urgent repairs of road safety systems or a road element based on the results when defects detected in the monitoring process based on digital virtual validated analysis.
