Evaluation of the Joint Interaction of Automatic Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control Systems

A test procedure for the joint interaction of the automatic emergency braking system (AEBS) and adaptive cruise control (ACC) has been developed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AEBS and ACC systems, two types of test scenarios are proposed: "direct automatic braking" and "sudden appearance of an obstacle". An experimental study was carried out using the developed methodology for Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Volvo XC40, Nissan X-Trail cars of 2019. Test runs were conducted at NAMI's Testing Center in daylight on a dry asphalt pavement. The model of an EVT light vehicle according to the ISO 19206-1 standard was used as a vehicle target. A comparison of braking algorithms in front of a fixed obstacle by the AEBS and ACC systems is presented. Parametric recording and test results are given when the test object moves in the ACC mode behind the leader vehicle. The influence of the distance to the leader vehicle and the speed of the lane change by the leader vehicle on the efficiency of ACC and AEBS when braking in front of a fixed obstacle has been established.
