Fuzzy Logic based Uplink Power Control for Cognitive Internet-of-Things

Internet-of-Things (IoT) is the latest technology trend that has gained enormous research interest from both academia and industry. The ubiquitous nature of IoT devices poses a serious challenge to the wireless medium to support simultaneous handling of multiple data transactions of diverse nature. Recently, incorporating cognitive computing in IoT has taken wireless communication world to another level giving rise to Cognitive IoT (CIoT). In this paper, a single-cell scenario comprising of multiple CIoT users installed in different environments and coexisting with the primary user (PU) in underlay dynamic spectrum access (DSA) mode has been considered. For this scenario, Fuzzy Rule Based System (FRBS) assisted transmit power allocation scheme is proposed to maximize the performance of each CIoT user in terms of signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) received at the cognitive base station (CBS). The optimization of SINR is subject to the strict transmit power and interference constraints keeping in view the path-loss exponents of different environments. The performance of the proposed scheme is validated through simulations.
