A study of attention bias differences between overweight and normal weight female college students based on BMI, WHR, waist circumference and hip circumference

In today's society, obesity has become an increasingly serious topic. Obesity not only brings about health problems, but also has a certain psychological impact. Especially for women who love beauty. Obesity is a key factor that has a huge impact on their normal life. Obese women have negative concerns about their body shape, tend to have negative emotions, and even show some pathological characteristics, which can be reflected by attention bias. This study screened 26 overweight female college students (BMIŁ25; BMI, Body Mass Index) as experimental group and 26 normal weight female college students (18.5flBMI<25) as control group. Experimental materials include body fat, thin body images and neutral pictures, This study used questionnaire to detect point detection paradigm and overweight female college students attention to fat shape and thin body bias and characteristics. The results of this study showed that: (1) In terms of response time, the main effect of cue validity was significant, the cue validity was greater than the cue invalidity, and there was inhibition of return, while other effects were not significant; (2) BMI and waist circumference of the experimental group had no significant correlation with the reaction time of the subjects; there was a positive correlation between WHR and the effectiveness of the thin body cues; in other cases, no significant correlation between WHR and response time; hip circumference was negatively correlated with response time in all six conditions. Conclusions: There was no significant difference between overweight female college students and normal weight female college students in attention bias to body shape, and there was inhibition of return in both groups. Overweight female college students did not have difficulty in dissociating attention from fat body type cues.
